Breakers can’t get by Sea Kings

Corona del Mar pulled away from Laguna Beach Tuesday night in what

had been a tight Pacific Coast League opener for both teams, using a

decisive third quarter to score an eventual 57-43 victory in girls’

basketball action.

Laguna led at halftime, 26-21, but visiting Corona del Mar turned

things around in the third period where the Sea Kings outscored the

Breakers, 21-5, to take command.

the team with 15 points.

the playing court last Saturday to play Newport Harbor following the

hot-shooting Newport team in a 53-44 nonleague loss.

came during the first half on 4 of 5 shooting from the field, and 16

points by Schmalzried. In girls’ water polo, senior Annie Preble

scorched the net for nine goals to power Laguna past outmanned Sunny

Hills, 14-2.

Annie Nelson each scored one goal.

In boys’ soccer, Laguna routed Sage Hill, 6-0. Derek LeBon led the

way with three goals and Nick Kohlscrieber, Pablo Hernandez and Joe

LeBon each scored once.

Keeper Chris Stansbury needed just two saves to record the

shutout.
