Cox selected to lead committee
The Speaker of the House on Wednesday tapped Rep. Chris Cox to
chair the Select Committee on Homeland Security.
The Newport Beach Republican looks forward to leading the new
group designed to work with Congress and other federal agencies to
protect the nation from terrorist attacks.
“In the wake of Sept. 11, our most important job is protecting
American citizens,” Cox said in a press release. “I will work to make
our government more effective in the fight against terrorism. I will
ensure that it is done efficiently, that Congress and the federal
government work together toward this common goal.”
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of Costa Mesa said Thursday that he has
applied to join Cox on the committee.

School cheer squad as the featured National Squad of the month for
January. The squad was chosen for its hard work, dedication and
perseverance.
In its first competition of the season, the squad captured first
place at the Century High School Cheer and Dance Holiday Classic. The
squad competed in the show cheer division, which featured its
tumbling, stunt and dancing abilities. It received scores of 90, 94
and 95 out of 100, respectively. The cheerleaders are now eligible to
compete in the regional championship on Saturday.
The squad is coached by Breean Carter and Amber Jolly. Jennifer
Cilderman is the squad’s advisor.
The cheer squad was the subject of controversy in fall 2001 when a
mix-up occurred about who had actually made the squad.
