Chiefs take sting out of Hornets

The winter season began in earnest on Monday at Coast 2 Coast
Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach, with five teams emerging
victorious in Smythe Division competition.
One of those winning teams was the Chiefs, who combined a big
offense with a stingy defense to produce a 6-1 victory over the
Hornets.
The Chiefs led the entire way. Matthew Drozdowski scored bookend
goals in the match and finishing with a game-best three goals overall
and one assist.
Matt Korn scored once with an assist, Ian Berrier and Jordan
Sanders each scored, and Julien Laux, Conor Murphy and Erik Jervik
each had an assist for the Chiefs.
Charles Condron finished with 12 saves.
Kyle Christi got the Hornets on the scoreboard with an unassisted
goal in the final period.
IN OTHER SMYTHE GAMES:
Rattlers 3, Booyahs 1
Daniel Ane surrendered just one goal and finished with 11 saves
for the Rattlers.
Offensively, Jacob Gonzales, Joshua Ane and Matthew Kibler all
scored, and David Clegg had an assist.
The Booyahs’ Ashley Earl scored unassisted, and Zack Porter’s busy
game in the net produced 27 saves.
Red Lazers 9, Rockets 3
Three players scored two goals and the Red Lazers posted three
goals in each period for the win.
Sean O’Connell, Ian Arnold and Eric Newfield each scored two
goals. Single goals went to Jake Briggs, Scott Mulder and Alec Luis.
Jacob Trani posted three consecutive scoring assists, Newfield
also contributed three, and Mulder, Briggs and Luis had one apiece.
Sean Wing finished with 10 saves.
Nick Evans scored for the Rockets.
River Rats 10, Blades 8
The difference in this match came in the second period of play,
when the River Rats outscored the Blades, 2-0.
Six River Rats got into the scoring act led by James Andrew’s four
goals and two by Tyler O’Donnell.
Brett Morinaka and Matthew O’Donnell also scored, and Tyler
O’Donnell added three assists. Morinaka had a pair, and Matthew
O’Donnell and Chris Drechsel each had one.
George Zuniga paced the Blades with four goals, and Tanner Privia,
James Williams, Kandice Ehret and Richard Oke each scored once.
Oke also finished with two saves, and teammates Zuniga and
Brittany Oke each had one.
Slapshots 4, Flames 3
Goals by Jordan Conaway, Elijah McHenry and Jared Perez lifted the
Slapshots to the victory.
Troy Loggins scored twice, Cameron Nagai scored once, and Hunter
Nelson had 16 saves to lead the Flames.
