Five Orange Coast College women’s volleyball players were named to
the All-Orange Empire Conference Teams.
The teams’ leader in kills (308), solo blocks (39) and digs (262),
Melissa Zapiain, was selected to the OEC first-team along with
Coast’s service ace leader (52), Krystle Davis. Davis, a 5-9
opposite, has amassed 250 kills -- second on the team only to
Zapiain.
Zapiain led the team with 25 kills and 27 digs in Coast’s
four-game win over Cuesta Saturday to catapult the Pirates to this
weekend’s state tournament.
Casey Petersen (5-11 outside hitter) and Kelly Overby (6-1 outside
hitter) were chosen to the second-team. Petersen has slammed 135
kills and is second on the team in solo blocks with 30.
Overby has tallied 217 kills and 24 solo blocks for Coast, 19-3,
11-3 in the OEC.
Christine Ryan received honorable mention. The 6-2 middle blocker
has assisted on a team-leading 59 blocks.
