Long Beach St. rallies to subdue ‘Eaters in four

CRAWFORD HALL -- UC Irvine’s women’s volleyball team fell to Long

Beach State, 30-28, 23-30, 17-30, 21-30, Friday night on the UCI

campus.

The Pirates were impressive early with Chanda McLeod delivering

three straight service aces to ignite the first-game victory, but

Long Beach State broke away from an 11-11 standoff in Game 2 and

never looked back.

UCI was led by Kelly Wing with 14 kills and eight digs. She’s now

the school’s record holder for kills in one season with 502.

UCI fell to 15-10, 8-7 in the Big West. Long Beach improved to

23-3, 12-3.

Pirates win in five

CYPRESS -- Jessica Lingo’s team-high 17 kills led the Orange Coast

College women’s volleyball team (16-2, 10-2 in the Orange Empire

Conference) to a five-game win, 30-21, 30-21, 24-30, 27-30, 15-13,

over host Cypress College (5-10, 3-9 in the OEC) Friday.

Krystle Davis tallied 16 kills and added three service aces and

Jessica Lippi made 35 assists for the Pirates. Kelly Overby recorded

six blocks and Janelle Jeremiah led Coast with 21 digs.

Vanguard swept

COSTA MESA -- Vanguard University’s women’s volleyball team was

unable to stay with potent Fresno Pacific in Golden West Athletic

Conference action Friday night as the Sunbirds recorded a 30-13,

30-17, 30-11 sweep in the Vanguard gym.

Fresno improves to 20-0 in the GSAC, repeating as conference

champions. Lin Gao paved the way with 13 kills.

Livia Peace led the Lions (5-15, 9-19 in the GSAC) with eight

kills and Debby Baeder had six kills. Jennifer Johnson ended her

volleyball career at Vanguard with 12 assists.
