Rent, don’t own to get taste of today’s best

HOW I READ IT
Here I am, casually pursuing the latest writings of some of
today’s best selling authors, including Tom Clancy, Michael Connelly,
Robert B. Parker, T. Jefferson Parker, Clive Cussler, James
Patterson, Jackie Collins, John Lescroart, Julie Garwood and Johanna
Lindsey, to name just a few.
Thank God I’m not at a Barnes & Noble sweating at how much it’s
going to cost me. No, I’m in our own friendly Public Library’s Rental
Section knowing it will cost me only $1.50 to rent my favorite
author’s most current work for a week!
This section was established to provide the latest works by
popular writers as soon as available and to offset their significant
cost by renting them. After six months, they are incorporated in the
library’s general inventory. This concept may have to be expanded
because of the library’s severe budget cuts, as described by Marianna
Hof in her Nov. 1 column.
Renting a bestseller from the library is an excellent way to
review a book you may be considering as a gift, before you invest.
I checked the Los Angeles Times’ Top 10 fiction bestsellers list
as of Oct. 27 and confirmed that they were all available through our
library.
Check them out.
