ON THE AGENDA

STUDY SESSION TOPICS

The school board will hear a brief review of two topics discussed

at a study session on Thursday: the No Child Left Behind Act and

pre-kindergarten guidelines.

No Child Left Behind is a sweeping federal education act passed by

the Bush Administration. The district will have to comply with

provisions covering assessment and accountability, school staff,

curriculum, parent involvement and school choice, among other

provisions. The board will discuss how it will deal with all of the

provisions. The board will also talk about the expansion of its

preschool program.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The board will listen to the presentation.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AWARDS -- EXPENDITURE PLANS

The school district will consider approving expenditure plans for

schools eligible for the Governor’s Performance Award Program based

on their Academic Performance Index growth target achievement. The

schools cannot spend their award money until the board approves its

plans.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It has been recommended that the board approve the expenditure

plans.
