Lions shut out by Toros

The Vanguard University women’s soccer team outshot visiting Cal
State Dominguez Hills, 15-14, but the NCAA Division II Toros won the
season opener for both teams, 2-0, Thursday night.
The Lions fired off 11 shots in the second half after trailing,
2-0. Nicole Avila led the Lions with four shots. Vanguard goalie
Jordan Fredriksen recorded four saves. Vanguard stayed even until
midway through the first half when the Toros converted the second
touch off a corner kick.
Then with just one second remaining in the first half Cal State
Dominguez Hills scored after Kim Acino’s shot hit the left post and
Diana Garza gathered the rebound and put the ball in the net.
Vanguard continues nonconference action today against host Cal
State San Bernardino.
