Laguna surveyor Alan Clark dies

Alan B. Clark, of Laguna Beach, died Aug. 4 of a heart attack. He
was 71.
Mr. Clark was a licensed land surveyor. He had a business in
Laguna for 42 years. His associate surveyor of 40 years, Larry
Gardner, will continue the business.
Mr. Clark was born in Ohio to Marcia Carolyn and Joseph Anthony
Clark. He had one sister, Janet, who is a retired teacher from the
Long Beach Unified School District.
Mr. Clark graduated from Southside High School, Rockville Centre
in Long Beach, N.Y. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology and
graduated from Pennsylvania State University in the top two
percentile. He continued his studies at U.S.C.
He served in the Army during the Korean Way and was stationed
overseas in Germany as a high-speed radio code operator.
Mr. Clark married his wife, Ruth, in 1959. They lived in
Capistrano Beach with her two children from a previous marriage.
Their daughter, Cheryl, was born in 1961.
Mr. Clark was a member of many historic societies including the
American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid
reader and his other interests included chess, golf and shooting
pool.
He was one of the old-time “Lagunatics.”
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter Cheryl Ann Clark and
her husband, Vincent Linday; daughter Cathryne Irwin her husband
James Mitchell; son Scott McDonald; grandchildren Siena and
Gabriella, Zareth, Katie, Casey and Tanya; sister Janet Clark Ashmore
of Huntington Beach; niece Janine Gosa; nephew David Jordan; and
cousin Leonard Adams of Chicago.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at McCormick
Mortuary, 1795 Laguna Canyon Road. The reception will follow at Cedar
Creek Inn, 384 Forest Ave.
