Sofa Kings lose lead, gain tie

Despite playing to its second tie in four weeks of play in the
City of Laguna Beach Men’s Summer 16 Softball Program, the Sofa Kings
remained one of two unbeaten teams in Wednesday League play after
being tied by Courtesy Auto Body, 11-11.
The game was called due to a time limit.
The Sofa Kings had a seemingly safe 9-3 lead heading into the
final inning of play, where Courtesy Auto Body rallied big time with
an eight run comeback to forge an 11-9 advantage.
It took Marco Johnson’s two-run home run in Sofa Kings’ final
at-bat to bring them even.
Kasey Curtis, Greg Kain and Jeff Tankersley also hit home runs for
the Sofa Kings.
Josh Strock belted a grand slam during Courtesy Auto Body’s eight
run rally.
In other Wednesday League games:
Sports World 19, Hobies 2
Sports World ran its record to 3-0-1 with the pasting Hobies.
Randy Buck tossed a three hit game. One of those hits was two-run
home run by Bob Armstrong and a single by Danny Christov.
John P. McMurray had a big night at the plate for Sports World,
hitting a pair of home runs and two singles in a four for five
performance.
Brad Davidson and Lance Stewart also had productive bats as each
nailed two home runs and a single.
Mitch Kruger also homered for Sports World.
Mesa Verde Partners 19, Forty Majority 8
Defending league champion Mesa Verde Partners kept on the winning
track by routing Forty Majority.
Jeff Greenough and Jeff Pick each powered grand slams to lead a
Mesa Verde Partners attack that featured a trio of singles by Scott
Henderson.
In Tuesday League action:
Island Shade 9, Team Viagra 7
Island Shade took a one-half game lead over Rotary in the race for
first place with the two-run win over Team Viagra.
Paul Sahargun singled for times in a perfect night at the plate,
Chuck Emanuele doubled with two singles and Wade Jones hit an
inside-the-park home run in Island Shade’s first at-bat.
Dave Brobeck, Team Viagra’s lead-off man, doubled with two
singles.
Keith Mulvaney added a double and single.
Ganahl Lumber 2, Rotary 2
John Verdugo’s three for three performance included a home run and
two singles and Brett Sevens, Jeff Stevens and Greg Wallace each hit
a pair of singles to lead Ganahl Lumber in the tie.
Mike Tackett was credited with both Rotary scores as he hit solo
home runs in each of the second and fourth innings.
Good, Bad and Ugly 11, Used Cars 8
The teams accounted for 23 hits between them as Good, Bad and Ugly
handed defending Tuesday League champion Used Cars its third
consecutive setback.
Randy Underwood hit three singles to pace Good, Bad and Ugly.
For Used Cars, Pete Wisner smacked two home runs and a single and
Pat Toohey finished with a home run and two singles.
