Herron two-hits Seaview

Robert Herron tossed a two-hitter Saturday and Robinwood opened the

District 62 All-Star Tournament of Champions with an impressive

performance as it defeated Seaview, 3-1, in Majors Division Area 2

competition.

In addition to limiting the host team to just two hits, the

right-hander struck out six and walked one in a complete game victory.

Herron was backed by a sound defense and an offense that collected six

hits.

The win moved Robinwood into a second-round winner’s bracket date

Wednesday night with Ocean View.

“Robert was outstanding,” Robinwood manager Ted Rinker said of

Herron’s performance. “He mixed up his arsenal really well and was

hitting his location.”

Robinwood pieced together four consecutive hits in the bottom of the

second inning to produce two runs for a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Donahue and Kyle Buchanan each singled before Paul Strong laid

down a bunt single to load the bases. That set the stage for Brian

Frattali who singled to the right side to knock in two runs.

Seaview retaliated with a run in the top half of the third inning, but

Robinwood got that run back in the bottom of the fourth when Cody Stroud

hit a leadoff triple and scored on Keegan Greebee’s single.

Seaview’s two hits came via a single by Jamie Martin and a double by

Austin Rovazzini.

Kyle Higashioka went the distance for Seaview. The right-hander gave

up six hits, struck out three and walked one.

“We did not have a great offensive game at all. We only had four base

runners, total. I give credit to Robinwood -- they had good pitching and

it was a great defensive effort by them,” said Seaview coach KC Fockler.

The loss dropped Seaview into an elimination game against Costa Mesa

American Tuesday at Seaview.
