Youth swimming: Splash wins swim crown

TUSTIN - The Costa Mesa Splash Aquatic swim team defeated three
teams to win the Division II championship of the Orange County Swim
Conference Pentathlon hosted by Social Aquatics at Tustin High June 29.
The Splash defeated Swim Team of Placentia, South Coast Aquatics Team
and Dolphin Aquatics of Laguna Niguel to claim the Division II trophy.
The team, who practices at Estancia High, had 24 individual medal
winners, including four first- and four second-place finishers.
Each swimmer competed in freestyle, butterfly, backstroke,
breaststroke and individual medley.
First-place finishers included Yasi Jahanshahi (girls ages 11-12),
Jaycee Baldus (girls 7-8), James Barker (boys 7-8) and Collin Votendahl
(boys 5-6).
The four second-place finishers included Adam Jones (boys 15-18), Chad
Kunert (boys 13-14), Layla Jahanshahi (girls 7-8) and Madison Pautsch
(girls 5-6).
Seven swimmers finished third including Amanda Shaffert (girls 15-18),
Frank Gamboa (boys 15-18), Amanda Loera (girls 13-14), Haley Kunert
(girls 9-10), Nicole Goerhing (girls 7-8) and Katie Calder (girls 5-6).
The two fourth-place finishers were Kelly Jenkins (girls 15-18) and
Collin Sherman (boys 11-12).
Six Splash members finished fifth including Lihini Keenewinna (girls
15-18), Krista Conrad (girls 13- and -14-year-olds), Clinton Jorth (boys
11-12), Meagan Kunert (girls 11-12), Allison Jones (girls 7-8) and Kyle
Spreeman (boys 7-8).Travis Jones finished sixth among boys 13-14 to round
out Splash medal winners.
