Another First Thursday’s Art Walk for the trophy list

Art walk was art talk and appreciation at one of Laguna’s most revered

events -- First Thursday’s Art Walk last Thursday. The galleries and

streets were busy with art fans getting a great taste of some of the best

art in the world. The smiling art walkers were enjoying the art-scapes at

all the galleries Laguna affords. Visiting a newcomer to the art walk

family, Tung & Groov, was a great experience. The gallery was crowded

with people as the amazing and eclectic gallery/store displayed a wide

and varied collection from furniture to accessories from around the globe

as well as local artists’ jewelry and artwork. Tung & Groov is at 950

Glenneyre St.

Being blessed this season

The blessing of the artists at St. Catherine Church a week ago was an

unparalleled experience. It gave all artists motivation and inspiration

to do their best during the upcoming art season. Local artists Chris Hoy,

Anne England, Fitz Maurice, Dennis Junka and Amy Conaway where there, as

well as members of the Arts Commission Pat Kollenda, Mike Tauber and

Linda Dietrich, all being blessed and mingling at the fun reception

afterward.

Skating at 7-Degrees

7-Degrees is showing “The Volcom Retrospective” opening tomorrow night

and running through Monday. Artists from the skateboard industry will be

on exhibit. Information: 376-1555. The gallery/multi-media center is at

It’s all about words

Next Thursday night is a special event at the Laguna Brewing Company.

The Pale Ale Poets will be dishing out the poetry in their domain with

special guest Michael Paul reading selections from his new book “American

Hieroglyph.” There’s also a segment of open poetry with sign-ups at 7:30

p.m. The whole thing will start around 8 p.m. Laguna Brewing Company is

at 422 South Coast Highway. Information: 499-2337.

Drumming up a good summer

Celebrate the summer solstice at a drumming and percussion circle at

the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary will offer summer solstice drumming around a

big bonfire from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Sanctuary opens at 6:30 p.m. for

meditation in the candlelight gardens and also around the medicine wheel.

It’s a groovy way to start your summer or celebrate the full moon each

month. All sorts of the instruments can be herd with a collective vibe

keeping the music going. People are welcome to use their own instruments

or borrow from their collection of worldwide instruments, which are also

on sale.

Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket and beverages as the

Sanctuary can get chilly. Information: 494-7734 or

Laguna artists take work to Sutton Place

Six French Laguna Beach artists featured in exhibit Bonjour Les

Artistes will have an exhibit this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with

25 French artists presenting original work, paintings, photography, mixed

media and sculptures.

Six of the featured artists are Laguna Beach residents: Marlyse Ruess,

Jacques Garnier, Natalie Gourdal, Martine Von Winterfelt, Nelly Marziale

and Colette Borkheim.

The exhibit will be at The Sutton Place Hotel, 4500 Mac Arthur Blvd.,

Newport Beach in the bistro terrace and the gazebo garden.

“The all-day event includes music, painting demonstrations,

caricatures, a drawing contest, lottery and more,” said Brenda Metchikian

public relations director.

Summer time heats up at 7-Degrees

The folks at 7-Degrees are putting on a hot summer party on the first

night of summer. June 21 is the opening of 7-Degrees summer artists’

residencies with summer residents Donnie Molls, Chris Schultz and Ron

Pastucha. Also featured are summer artists Jacques Garnier and Douglas

McCulloh, Dion Wright, James Muttetti and Roark Gourley.

Tempo Tuesday spinning at the White House

Don’t forget to check out Tempo Tuesday, which happens once a month at

the White House. It will provide an array of electronic music with sounds

of house, hip-hop, funk, down tempo and rare grooves.

Resident DJ’s Irik, Jonra and Peter J. will keep the music thumping

with special guest DJ’s in the mix.

The White House is at 340 South Coast Highway. Tempo is from 10 p.m.

to 2 a.m. and has a $2 cover. Info: 494-8088.

There is so much fun art and entertainment in Laguna Beach that you’ll
