Laguna tennis team places third at UCLA

The Laguna Enrichment Area Resource Network, a girls’ under-14

Division tennis team, captured third place in its division at last

weekend’s USA Team Tennis 2002 Spring Sectional Championships.

The two-day event was held at the L.A. Tennis Center on the UCLA

campus.

The Laguna-based team tied the two matches they played, losing one on

games and winning the other on games.

Each of the six competing teams in the division played three singles

and one doubles match during the round-robin.

The LEARN tennis team won the right to compete at UCLA by virtue of

winning the South Orange County USA Team Tennis title.

“These girls worked really hard to earn this third place finish,”

LEARN coach Greg Weiss said. “They are a good group of girls who deserve

this success.”

Gabby Robinson, who graduated this week from Thurston Middle School

and who will enter Laguna Beach High in the fall, won her two matches at

No. 2 singles.

Other team members who helped LEARN earn its third-place sectional

finish are Kristen Drury, Camron Meehan, Alex Yates-Robinson, Lauren

Kelly and Marissa Meyer.
