Prep softball: Five Sailors honored
Newport Harbor High junior shortstop Athena Vasquez and junior
pitcher Kim Moore have been selected first-team All-Sea View League by
the circuit’s softball coaches.
In addition, juniors Shelby Crisp, Sabrina Couch and Amanda Campbell
represent the Sailors on the second team.
Vasquez, a second-team choice the last two springs, continued to
dazzle defensively, while also acting as an offensive catalyst, primarily
in the leadoff spot.
Moore, who starred in the circle and also contributed with the bat,
pitched the Sailors to a league triumph over Irvine, ending the school’s
38-game league losing streak on the field.
Crisp, a first baseman whose bat control made her a valuable weapon in
the No. 2 spot, was also a second-team choice last spring.
Couch added to a sound Sailor infield at second base, while Campbell
batted cleanup and handled catching duties for Coach Jess Martinson’s
unit.
Junior pitcher Brittany Fait and junior second baseman Dominque
Lastrapes, who led Laguna Hills to its first Sea View title, are Co-MVPs.
