HUNTINGTON BEACH - Corona del Mar High junior Garrett Snyder and
freshman doubles partner Carsten Ball breezed into today’s semifinals
with a pair of victories Friday in the CIF Southern Section individual
boys tennis tournament at the SeaCliff Tennis Club.
Snyder and Ball, the No. 1 seed, dispatched Chris Cobo and Rick
Nordeen from Walnut, 6-0, 6-1, in the Round of 16. The Sea King duo then
polished off Jordan Villwock and Blake Meister from Dana Hills, 6-3, 6-2,
in the quarterfinals.
Snyder, who won the CIF doubles crown last spring with then-senior
Brian Morton, will attempt to repeat today, beginning with an 11:30 a.m.
semifinal, also at SeaCliff, against the unseeded Harvard-Westlake duo of
Don Rubenstein and James Thayer. Rubenstein and Thayer defeated Chase
Muller and Kerry Wheeler of Santa Barbara, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, in their
quarterfinal Friday.
The final is scheduled to follow the semifinal today.
