Eagles lose, 6-1

COSTA MESA - Estancia High’s baseball team had some chances Friday,
but the Eagles were unable to capitalize against Pacific Coast League
leader Northwood, which broke it open with four runs in the sixth inning
to seize a 6-1 victory on a cold and wind-swept Eagles’ field.
Paul Flory was the hard-luck loser after giving up two runs in the
third, and giving way in the fifth inning because his limit of innings
was up for the week.
Estancia, which had just three singles, yet left nine runners
stranded, scored in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1 without
benefit of a base hit.
Jeremy Hauser and Justin Lund walked, Flory’s fielder’s choice put
runners on first and third, then Casey Gates got the run across with a
fielder’s choice.
Lund was on base three times, once with a free pass, and twice when
hit in the head by the pitch.
Northwood pounded out 14 hits, five in the four-run sixth.
The Timberwolves scored two in the third when after two out, two
runners came home on Andrew Morrison’s wind-single which started in
center and landed in right-center.
Estancia fell to 3-15-1, 1-10. Northwood is 9-2 in the PCL.
