Irvine Co., Bren to get honored for gift

The Laguna Canyon Foundation will honor the Irvine Co. and its
chairman, Donald Bren, during a celebration in late April at the site of
the long sought-after Laguna Laurel land gift.
“It has been the goal for many years to include the last land parcel
as part of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park,” said Mary Fegraus,
executive director for the Laguna Canyon Foundation. “We are very
grateful to Mr. Bren and the Irvine Company for having made that happen.”
Last November, the Irvine Co. announced an 11,000-acre land gift for
use as parkland in Orange County. Included was the small parcel of land
that originally was part of the sale of the Laguna Laurel development
land.
The Irvine Co.’s gift will permanently preserve the land.
Before and after the ceremony, docents from the Nature Conservancy and
Laguna Greenbelt Inc. will for the first time lead hikes on the Laguna
Laurel property. There also will be an exhibit of native birds by Birds
of Prey.
At the event, Supervisor Tom Wilson, Michael Pinto of the Laguna
Canyon Foundation and Monica Florian of the Irvine Co. will also deliver
remarks.
The celebration begins at 10 a.m. on Sat., April 27. For parking and
event information, call (949) 855-7275 or visit www.lagunacanyon.org.
