Night hike raises consciences, money

Hikers led by the light from a full moon saw surrounding Laguna
wilderness at night and practiced yoga while at the same time donating
$150 toward the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
The full moon hike, co-sponsored by Laguna Greenbelt Inc. board member
Laura Stahlberg and Laguna Yoga studio owner Johnna Trimmer, climbed
through 3 1/2 miles of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park on March 30. It
offered 27 hikers a chance to see spring wildflowers, red-tailed hawks
and fossilized scallop shells.
They also stopped for a meditation on top of Bommer Ridge and
performed yoga exercises.
“We nibbled on sages, tasted wild mustard, a veritable feast,”
Stahlberg said. “The popularity is growing each time.”
Stahlberg and Trimmer also sponsored a hike in September, attended by
about 15 people. The two hope to schedule hikes every six to eight weeks,
Trimmer said.
“I thought we got a really good response,” Trimmer said. “It allows us
to expose people to nature and to get together as a community.”
Stahlberg said the money could be used for educational programs,
stewardship and/or outreach.
“Next time we might earmark [funds],” Stahlberg said.
