Newport Beach police diffuse bomb scare

A suspected bomb Wednesday afternoon at a Newport Beach home was very
likely a paper weight or a replica of a World War II grenade, police
said.
Newport Beach police called the Orange County Sheriff’s Department
Bomb Squad after they received the call about 3:30 p.m. from a home in
the 1700 block of Miramar Drive, Sgt. Mike McDermott said.
He said the bomb squad has taken the grenade to its lab for further
investigation.
McDermott said he was not sure who called in the bomb threat or where
exactly the grenade was in relation to the home.
No homes were evacuated during the incident, police said.
