College women’s water polo: UCI routs Wagner and UMASS

UC IRVINE AQUATIC COMPLEX - The UC Irvine women’s water polo team,
ranked No. 20, routed Wagner 11-4 and 19th-ranked Massachusetts, 12-4,
but was denied a three-game winning streak by Indiana, 6-4, Thursday
night.
Against Wagner, the Anteaters (5-12) scored 30 seconds into the game
and never looked back.
UCI Freshman Margaret Feeney recorded her first career hat trick.
Freshman Jessica Issacs tallied a career-high six saves.
In game two, against UMASS, the Anteaters broke the game open in the
second period by scoring five goals. Sophomores Lauren Volcan and Erica
Horman each knocked home four goals, while junior Jen Moon saved seven
balls in the net, her best outing at UCI.
In the last game, Indiana’s Kristin Stanford recorded a hat-trick in
the first quarter, but UCI tied it at 4 in the final period. The
Hoosiers’ Kristy Streefkerk scored the eventual game-winner with 1:27
left.
UC Irvine travels to UC San Diego Sunday to face the 12th-ranked
Tritons at 11:00 a.m. and the 15th-ranked Princeton Tigers at 2:00 p.m.
