Girls water polo: CdM, Tars host openers

CORONA DEL MAR - The informality that is the first round of the CIF

Southern Section girls water polo playoffs begins today for heavily

favored Back Bay contingents from Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar high

schools.

CdM (21-6), the No. 1 seed in Division IV and champion of the Pacific

Coast League, hosts Ocean View at 3:15 p.m. Ocean View defeated

Pacifica, 16-8, in a wild-card game Tuesday.

Newport Harbor (21-6), which claimed the Sea View League crown and

earned the No. 3 seed in Division I, plays host to Esperanza at 4:15 at

CdM.

Coach Bill Barnett’s Sailors trounced the 18-11 Aztecs, 13-3, in the

Tars’ third game of the season.

Today’s winners advance to their respective division quarterfinals

Saturday.
