Randomly sampled Orange County voters say they’ll support a measure
that would allow a Great Park at the closed El Toro Marine base, but
would not accept a tax increase to pay for it, according to a recent
poll.
Of the 555 randomly selected households, 60.9% said they were either
“very likely” or “somewhat likely” to vote for Measure W on March 5.
Also, 39.1% said they were “very unlikely” or “somewhat unlikely” to
support it.
Measure W would change the zoning at the base to allow the park, but
wouldn’t ensure its development.
The poll, completed between Jan. 21 and Feb. 3, was conducted by Cal
State Fullerton and the Orange County Business Council.
When asked whether they would support a tax to pay for the park, 58.6%
said they would not. On the other side, 41.4% said they would pay to
play.
Support for an airport came in at 44.6% in the poll. When asked if
they would oppose an airport, 55.4% said they would.
