College softball: Liebengood breaks record

Gina Liebengood struck out seven to set a school record for career
strikeouts and lead host Vanguard University to a 5-4 victory in the
first game of a nonconference softball doubleheader against Cal State San
Bernardino Wednesday.
Vanguard’s second contest against San Bernardino ended in a 1-1 tie
because of darkness.
In the first game, Celina Camarillo tripled to right to open the
seventh inning and scored on a bunt by Rachael Rolle to end the game and
hand the Lions (5-4-1) the win.
Vanguard was trailing, 3-1, going into the bottom of the fourth
inning, but tied the score with three runs on five hits and an error.
Liebengood, a senior who has struck out 530 in her career, went the
distance, giving up six hits.
Vanguard’s Marciea Ball started the second contest of the
doubleheader, giving up three hits in six innings. Both teams scored an
unearned run in the fifth inning and had three hits in the game. San
Bernardino falls to 5-9-1.
