Boys soccer: Sea Kings close out season with loss

CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High boys soccer team ended its
season of improvement with a 1-0 Pacific Coast League loss to visiting
Northwood Wednesday.
The Sea Kings (5-9-3, 2-6-2 in the PCL) reverted to last year’s style,
lacking intensity in the first 40 minutes, which included Northwood
junior Benny Filhaber’s goal in the 10th, CdM Coach Pat Callaghan said.
But CdM increased its effort in the second half to produce scoring
opportunities, which resulted unsuccessfully.
“We had some excellent chances, but couldn’t put it away, which seems
to be the story of our second half of the PCL season,” said Callaghan,
who possesses much optimism for next season. “We have some talented
players (10 will return next year) and the program will continue to grow.
We went from sixth to fourth in the PCL, Hopefully, a second-place is on
the horizon next year. We’ll be back next year.”
CdM finished 2-14, 0-9-1 in the PCL last year.
