CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High boys soccer team earned a
pair of one-goal leads over visiting Laguna Beach, but couldn’t hold on
in a 2-2 Pacific Coast League-opening tie Wednesday.
Senior Aldo Bautista flicked in a free kick by Andy Almquist in the
20th minute to give the Sea Kings (3-6-2) a 1-0 lead.
After the Artists pulled even before halftime, Shogo Fujii set up a
go-ahead goal by CdM sophomore Julien Cerutti in the 60th minute, but
Laguna scored the equalizer about eight minutes later.
Goalie Geoff Collier made four saves for the Sea Kings, who visit
Estancia Friday.
“We had a number of chances at the end of the game, but we couldn’t
convert,” CdM Coach Pat Callaghan said.
