Cheetahs win Sunday pair

The East Huntington Beach Cheetahs won a pair of seventh-grade
girls’ All-Net Division Green Conference contests last Sunday, beating
Mission Viejo, 40-29, before winning a 53-51 triple overtime thriller
against West Huntington Beach at Ocean View High.
Kay-Dee Lane, Denise Willans, and Allyson Weimer each scored 10
points, and Stacey Yin had seven rebounds to lead the way against Mission
Viejo.
Weimer starred in the triple overtime decision over West Huntington
Beach. She hit a three-point basket with two seconds left at the end of
the second overtime to knot the score at 51-51, then won the game with
two ticks left in the third overtime on a rebound basket.
The Cheetahs are now 2-0.

South HB 45, Newport-Mesa 20
The South Huntington Beach Electricity jumped out to a commanding 20-4
halftime lead over the Newport-Mesa Lakers Sunday, then cruised to an
easy victory at Ensign Middle School in Newport Beach. Lauren Kaprielian
and Eileen Flanagan each scored 12 points to pace the Electricity, while
Anna Storti scored seven and Nicole Kaprielian had six.
South Huntington Beach is now 2-0 this season.
FOUNTAIN VALLEY NJB
DIVISION 1
Hotshots 23, Long Beach 21
Amanda Cecil hit the winning basket and then secured the double
overtime victory by grabbing a rebound off Long Beach’s final shot of the
game.
Trailing 13-2 in the fourth quarter, Crystal Perez hit a pair of three
point shots and also played tenacious defense to key the Hotshots’
comeback. Perez fouled out, but not before finishing with 12 points,
seven rebounds, six steals and two assists.
Cecil finished with six points and added six steals, and Kimberly
Rhoten and Lauren Salvati came up with key blocks and rebounding as the
Hotshots improved to 3-0.
