Mark Lewis joins the ranks of the first-time candidates this year.
A 37-year resident, he studied for five years at Golden West College
and volunteers at the Beverly Health Care Center in Costa Mesa.
Lewis said public safety is imperative for Huntington Beach.
“Without having law and order, we don’t have order in the city,” he
said. “And we need to save our open land and not add to our city.”

MARK LEWIS ON:
* REDEVELOPMENT
“I’m really concerned about what is in the best interest of the people
of the city,” he said.
Commercial redevelopment to revamp sections of the city is needed, he
added, but overbuilding Huntington Beach is a general concern for all
residents.
More community input from residents would help the city better plan
future developments, he added.
* THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING THE CITY
“This city has never really paid attention to what is beneath the
ground,” he said.
He added that civic infrastructure will need the most attention in the
coming years.
The city’s sewers, sidewalks and streets need a lot of work to keep
them running, and an infrastructure focus will do that, he said.
