Here’s some of the action from Tuesday’s school board meeting:
ISSUE: SUPERINTENDENT’S CONTRACT
Vote: 4-1, with Trustee Sallie Dashiell dissenting
Summary: After the board’s review and evaluation of the
superintendent, trustees voted to add another year to Supt. Susan Roper’s
contract. The appointment of the three-year term began July 1 and will
continuing through June 30, 2003, with a salary of $146,474 a year.
Though supportive of the superintendent, Dashiell made a motion to
table the vote and return to it after more input by teachers. Her motion
was not seconded.
ISSUE: REPAIR PROGRAM
Vote: No vote
Summary: The board discussed the district’s facilities repair program
at a study session. Priorities included safety, restrooms, accessibility,
the Digital High School program, heating ventilation, air conditioning,
new roofing, seismic work and structural repairs. Projects will be funded
through the deferred maintenance fund, developer fees, Home Depot lease
revenue, redevelopment agencies and a one-time block grant. The district
expects the 18-month program will be complete by June 2003.
