Girls tennis: Hawkins comes up big

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES - Newport Harbor High junior Megan Hawkins
stepped up her game to earn singles victories over two highly regarded
opponents, but the Sailors fell to host Peninsula, 15-3, in nonleague
girls tennis Tuesday.
Hawkins knocked off Christine Setian, 6-2, then toppled Macall
Harkins, 7-6 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) to pace the Tars (2-3).
Harbor doubles partners Carmen Khoury and Cheryl Dobson also won a set
as Peninsula (5-0) extended its winning streak to 44 matches.

Singles - Hawkins (NH) def. Setian, 6-2, def. Harkins, 7-6 (7-5) ,
lost to Laing, 0-6; Nelson (NH) lost, 3-6, 0-6, 1-6; Dunlap (NH) lost,
4-6, 0-6, 0-6.
Doubles - Buder-Adams (NH) lost to LaBruchene-Joshi, 2-6, lost to
Fisher-Pagliano, 2-6, lost to Jurewitz-Lewallen, 1-6; D. Khoury-Olson
(NH) lost, 1-6, 4-6, 5-7; C. Khoury-Dobson (NH) lost, 0-6, 4-6, won, 6-4.
