Boys water polo: CdM fifth

ALISO VIEJO - Corona del Mar High’s 18-and-under boys water polo
team wrapped up the San Clemente Tournament in fifth place last Saturday
at Aliso Niguel High.
A tough 12-11 loss to Coronado in the first game put CdM in the loser’s
bracket. Bobby Messenger, Marcello Pantuliano and Garrett Bowlus each
scored in the fourth quarter during CdM’s comeback attempt.
CdM took out its frustrations in its next game against Santa Ana by
administering a 20-3 beating. John Mann had seven goals for CdM.
A 16-6 victory over Aliso Niguel gave CdM fifth place. Bowlus and Chriss
Street each had four goals for CdM, and Messenger chipped in three. In
the fourth quarter, Bowlus and goalie Sherwin Kim swapped roles. Kim
scored once, and Bowlus made two saves.
Bowlus led CdM in the tournament with nine goals. Messenger and Artie
Dorr each scored six in the three games.
CdM’s “B” team won three of five games in the University 18-and-under
tournament, including a 9-6 decision over CdM’s “C” squad. Jason DiRocco
led CdM with 16 goals in the tournament. Trevor Arnold was second on CdM
with nine goals.
