Roller hockey: Red Wings blank Rangers

COSTA MESA - The Red Wings advanced to the Harbor Area Boys and

Girls Club first- and second-grade championship game, scheduled today,

following their 5-0 win over the Rangers.

Title games for fourth grade (4 p.m.), grades 1-2 (5 p.m.), third grade

(6 p.m.) and grades 5-6 (7 p.m.) are set for tonight at the Costa Mesa

Boys Club.

Red Wing center Ryan Iverson recorded his third hat trick of the season,

bringing his season goal count to 38.

Right winger Scott Pantosky and defenseman Cody Parole each added single

goals to complete the Red Wings’ scoring.

Assisting the Red Wings’ offense was left winger Patty Moddelmog.

Parole and Lucas Gagnon were solid on defense, while goalie Tony Nasca

and Riley Conroy combined to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard.

Penguins roll

COSTA MESA - The Penguins used some timely scoring to upend the

Canadiens, 6-5, in fourth-grade roller hockey action.

Connor Corrigan had three goals to lead the Pens. Justin Bailey added two

goals and Deryck Matallah added a single goal.

Penguins’ goalie Dillon Flinn stopped numerous shots, while the defense

was anchored by Craig Desbrow.The Penguins also pulled off a 6-5 win over

the Ducks and defeated the Stars recently.

The Pens defeated the Ducks, 6-5, on June 5 behind Corrigan’s three

goals.

Bailey added two goals, while Kevin Kottke added a single score.

Goalie Flinn made a game-saving stop during the sudden-death shootout to

keep the Penguins on top.

Saturday, the Penguins outlasted the Stars, 4-1. Corrigan had two goals,

while Kottke and Flinn each added single goals.

Bailey, Desbrow and Matallah each played solid all-around games to lead

the Pens to victory.
