Youth soccer: Lincoln among victors

Lincoln Elementary’s third- and fourth-grade boys soccer team

defeated Harbor Day, 2-0, in the championship game of the Daily Pilot Cup

Sunday at Kaiser Elementary.

The Lincoln defense of Kevin Kottke, Nick Taylor, Ryan Austin and Erik

Rask dominated the game so thoroughly, goalie Kevin Rask was not required

to touch the ball to record the shutout.

Carl Waniek and Paolo Iaccarino each scored for the winners.

Captain Elliot Waniek, Noah Molnar, Jacob Goulding, Jordan Goulding, Nick

Freeman, Morgan Bromball and Alfie Nowak also contributed offensively for

Lincoln, which was guided by head coach Andrew Nowak and assistant Jon

Kottke.

In the semifinals, Lincoln defeated Mariners Elementary, 3-1, behind

goals from Molnar, Rask and Iaccarino.

In previous tournament action, Lincoln topped Davis Elementary, 3-1, and

Andersen Elementary, 5-2.

Freeman scored twice and Jordan Goulding once against Davis, while Alfie

Nowak and Iaccarino (two apiece) and Bromball accounted for the scoring

against Andersen.

Rask was outstanding in goal for the winners against Andersen.

Newport Heights won the fifth- and sixth-grade girls division, sweeping

four matches, while Newport Heights won the boys fifth- and sixth-grade

boys title, as well.

The Newport Heights boys lost to runner-up Kaiser, 2-1, Saturday, but avenged that defeat with a 2-0 title-game verdict Sunday at Harper

Community Center.

Kaiser won the girls third- and fourth-grade division, defeating St.

Joachim, 8-0, in the title contest Sunday.
