New Hope Athletes put on good show

Several young athletes from the New Hope Academy of Gymnastics of
Fountain Valley completed their season with a strong showing at the
Region 1 Boys Gymnastics Championships held at Cal State Bakersfield.
Four New Hope gymnastics claimed first place finishes, led by Tyson
Seneca with two wins in Class 5, in a regional competition that included
teams from California, Hawaii, Arizona, and Nevada.
Seneca won both the high beam (9.6 score) and parallel bars (9.4), and
placed second all-around in his class.
New Hope’s Bruce Concepcion was another first-place winner in Class 5 as
he captured the vault with a score of 9.825.
In Class 6 competition, John Paul Salgado won the parallel bars with a
9.25, and in Class 4, Sean Dee was first in the floor exercise (8.45),
and Jordan White won the rings (8.250), was third on the parallel bars
(8.27), and placed second all-around in the class.
In addition, Robby Mazolla earned second place finishes on both the
pommel horse (9.1) and the parallel bars (9.175), and was third on floor
(9.1), and Donothan Bailey was third on pommel horse.
Bailey and New Hope teammate Michael Ung were named to the Southern
California All-Star Class 6 Team. Seneca, Jimmy Kerry, and Joe Troung
were Class 5 All-Star selections, and White made the Class 4 All-Star
team.
The New Hope gymnastics are coached by former Soviet Union Olympic
champion Eduard Azarian and former national pommel horse champion Scott
Picquelli.
