THEY WILL BE MISSED: We have lost some community-minded people in
recent weeks. Most recently, longtime Newport Beach resident, business
and community leader Debbie Gray died.
At one time, Debbie owned the Balboa Fun Zone, received the Silver Anchor
Award and was a leader in the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce and a
number of community organizations. The memorial service for Debbie is 11
a.m. today at Newport Dunes.
A month ago, we lost Don Miskanic, who had been an active member of the
Newport-Balboa Rotary Club a few years ago. Whether it was in Rotary or
as a parent of a Newport Harbor High School student, he was always
willing to roll up his sleeves and share his time and talents. He is
survived by Judy, his wife of 25 years, and his daughter, Michelle.
Longtime Newport Beach resident and former Orange County Grand Jury
foreman and deputy probation officer Ellen Wilcox died in April. Ellen
helped to found the Assessment and Treatment Services Center and
spearheaded fund-raising for the new Orangewood Home for abused children.
She was active in Leadership Tomorrow, the Newport Harbor Chamber of
Commerce and Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian Church.
These three individuals, who shared their time, talents and treasures
with the community, will be missed. Condolences to their families.
