ORANGE COAST COLLEGE -- A campus volunteer will receive an honorary
associate in arts degree in recognition of her service to OCC.
Christine Edwards of Newport Beach will receive the degree May 25 at
OCC’s commencement when nearly 2,000 students will receive degrees and
certificates of achievement.
Edwards, the former operations manager of John Wayne Airport, has served
on the OCC Foundation Board of Directors for seven years. She was the
chairwoman for the last two years.
In addition, Edwards served as president of the library board for the
past five years.
Her activity at OCC began when she was a high school senior when she took
a French class at the college. Edwards went on to Lewis and Clark College
in Portland, Ore., and earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. She
continued her education and earned a master’s degree in Spanish, plus a
teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton.
She started working at the John Wayne Airport in 1976 and got involved at
OCC again through sailing classes. Since her classes, Edwards has sailed
from Newport Beach to Hawaii and many other fun excursions. Many of the
trips were aboard the OCC’s 75-foot vessel “Alaska Eagle.”
