Newport-Mesa’s own statehouse duo, state Sen. Ross Johnson and
Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer, will be offering insight into the
behind-the-scenes world of Sacramento at a breakfast meeting Friday.
The meeting, one of the Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce’s Sunrise
Breakfasts, will be an exciting one, said chamber spokesman Doug Stuckey.
Johnson, the Senate Minority Leader, is the first California legislator
to serve as party leader in both houses. He was among the senators who
helped pass the “three strikes” law.
Brewer, who holds the third-highest ranking among Republicans in the
Assembly, is in her final term in office. Among the positions she has
held since taking office in 1994 include vice chairman of the
Appropriations Committee.
The breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m. at the Sutton Place Hotel in Newport
Beach. The cost is $20 for members who make reservations; $24 at the door
or for potential members. For more information or to make reservations,
call the Chamber of Commerce at (949) 574-4400.
