Perennial water polo power Marina High had three members of its
program selected to the 1999 National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches
Association’s All-American teams, the NISCA announced Thursday.
Two players from the Vikings boys’ team, and one from the Marina
girl’s squad, were named All-American.
Five boys teams were selected, and the coaches association formed
four girls teams.
Jeff Larson, the leading scorer for Marina this past season, was
named First-Team. Named to the Third Team was Jason Fassnacht, also one
of the team leaders for the Vikings.
Both Larson and Fassnacht graduated from Marina in June. The duo
helped guide Marina into the Division II final last May, where the
Vikings fell in overtime to Servite.
Goalie Cara Chelbicki, who will begin her junior year at Marina
next Wednesday, was named to the girls Second Team.
The teams were culled from players across the nation.
Nine Orange County players, overall, were named to both the boys
and girls teams.
