City seeks Design Review Board applicants

Laguna Beach is accepting applications for the city’s Design Review Board, according to a news release.

Interviews and appointments are generally held in October, but because of the November election, they will take place during the regular City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 6 in council chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

The board, composed of five members and one alternate, will review proposed development projects to determine whether plans conform to the city’s general plan and coastal and zoning standards, according to the city’s website.

The board, which meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, plays a large role in protecting the village atmosphere of the city, the website says.

Members serve two-year terms and receive $324 per month. Board duties take up about 10 hours per week, the city’s website says.

In addition to the meetings, board members are expected to visit the sites and review project plans.

Members should be able to understand and conceptualize architectural drawings and evaluate on-site staking plans. Experience in the building trades, architecture, historic preservation, landscaping, planning or real estate would be an asset, according to the website.

Interested Laguna Beach residents can obtain an application from the city clerk’s office or online at https://www.lagunabeachcity.net. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Dec. 30.

Council members request that applicants attend at least two design review meetings before the interviews.

For questions, contact City Clerk Lisette Chel-Walker at (949) 497-0705.
