The Rev. Mandy Flemming will take over as the new pastor at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church in South Laguna beginning July 1, according to a news release.
Bishop Minerva Carcano appointed Flemming to the post, currently held by interim Pastor Mary Scifres, the release said. The church’s former pastor, Doug Williams, has been assigned to another church, Laguna Country United Methodist Church in Laguna Woods, and will start there July 1.
Flemming is currently minister of Christian education and spiritual formation at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Atlanta. She has also served as a pastor of two small churches in New Jersey.
Flemming has extensive experience in a variety of family and children’s ministries, including drama and music programs.
She received her master’s degree in divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2003 and graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Christian thought from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta in 2000.
Flemming plays guitar and piano and has trained vocally in sacred music at Westminster Choir College in New Jersey. While at Princeton, she won the David Allen Weadon Prize in Sacred Music.
She and her husband, Matt, have two sons, Jackson and Cooper, and a daughter, Sloan.
The church is at 21632 Wesley Drive.
