Costa Mesa man sentenced to 10 years in Seal Beach home invasion

A Costa Mesa man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for a home invasion robbery in Seal Beach.

Aaron Michael Lipsey, 36, pleaded guilty in September along with co-defendant Richard Henry Derderian, 36, also of Costa Mesa.

Lipsey pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery, one count of burglary, three counts of dissuading a witness by force and three counts of criminal threats, all felonies, as well as three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. He also admitted to sentencing enhancement allegations of property damage exceeding $200,000.

Derderian was sentenced in September to 13 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery, one count of burglary, three counts of dissuading a witness by force, one count of criminal threats, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon and a prohibited person owning ammunition, all felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.

Derderian also admitted to sentencing enhancement allegations of property damage exceeding $200,000 and committing a secondary offense while out on bail in another case.

The pair broke into a home in the 1100 block of Seal Way at about 4 p.m. Aug. 21, 2017, and tied up three men inside before ransacking the house and stealing a safe, Seal Beach police Sgt. Michael Henderson reported when they were arrested two years ago.

In August, Lipsey also pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell along with carrying a dirk or dagger, with a sentencing enhancement for committing a crime while out on bail.
