In the Arts: Festival deadline approaches

The deadline to apply for the 2014 Festival of Arts is around the corner.

Artists interested in exhibiting their work at the juried fine art show from July 6 to Aug. 30 are requested to submit a CD with three digital images per media and a completed application form by 4 p.m. Friday. Jurying fees cost $50 per medium.

The Deck on Laguna Beach and The Bungalows at Pacific Edge Hotel are poised to present “Sip & Shuck — Oysterfest” from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 10.

The event, which features oyster and champagne specialists, will benefit the Surfrider Foundation South Orange County Chapter, a nonprofit working for the protection and enjoyment of oceans. Attendees can take pictures at a photo booth, look over merchandise by Hobie, Billabong and other companies, and view an art collection provided by the Mint Art Gallery.

General admission for the 21-and-over event is $25; VIP entry is $50. For attendees who want to stay the night, Pacific Edge Hotel is offering a $185 Standard Package and $285 View Package.

The Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre presents “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” beginning Nov. 8 and running to Nov. 17.

The show will be directed by Donna Inglima, with musical direction by Mark Turnbull and choreography by Ellen Prince.

Performances are 7 p.m. Fridays and 1 and 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road. Tickets range from $18 to $20. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, and until 8 p.m. on performance days.

The playhouse will also host “Stop In The Name Of Fun: A Motown Gala” at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at The Resort at Pelican Hill, 22701 Pelican Hill Road S., Newport Beach.

Dinner and live entertainment are on the evening’s playbill, as well as a silent auction and raffle. Items include a Resort at Pelican Hill golf and spa package and one-week Kauai condo vacation for four.

Admission is $200 per person, or $2,000 for a table of 10. Dress is cocktail or 1960s Motown. Reservations are required by Nov. 15.
