The Laguna Beach Film Society will honor the ocean at 6:45 p.m. May 15.

The group will screen eight short documentaries, official selections of the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival, at Laguna South Coast Theatre, 162 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach. Featured movies, ranging from four to 45 minutes, will include “Oaks to Otters,” “Majestic Plastic Bag” and “Whale Fall.”

The event will offer the opportunity to meet members of the Laguna Ocean Foundation, Orange County Coastkeeper, Laguna Bluebelt and the Surfrider Foundation at 6 p.m. A a guitar performance by Eric Henderson will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $8, or $10 at the door. Children and students pay $5.

Four students enrolled in the Festival of Arts’ Youth Arts Education program were recently honored at the 17th annual National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition in Milwaukee, Wis.

Caden Hallahan, a kindergartner from Aliso Viejo, received an honorable mention and Curators Book Award, which was given to only 10 of the 500-plus exhibitors, for his piece, “Medium Rare.” Munroe Kraus, a second-grader from San Clemente, received an Artistic Merit Award for “Penguin Cup.” Phillip Stavisski of Aliso Viejo was also recognized at the juried competition as was Michael Tanaka, a Laguna Beach resident.

Festival of Arts ceramic instructor Monica Dunham was also recognized for her work.

“I’m thrilled about my kids getting these awards,” Dunham said in a news release. “It just makes me so excited to teach these classes again this summer!”

The Festival of Arts is now accepting reservations for Youth Arts Education classes, available 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 7 to August 29. Classes, open to children between 5 and 12, are offered in ceramics, painting, printmaking, jewelry and more. Each child must pay a $10 materials fee per class.
