O.C. jail on lock down after inmate, deputy clash

Inmates at Orange County’s largest jail have been on lock down since Tuesday evening after a physical confrontation between an inmate and a deputy.
The inmate clashed with the guard as he was being moved along with a group of seven other inmates while their cells were searched, said Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“Based on the way the inmate reacted, staff believed it may be more than an isolated incident,” Hallock said.
During the lock down, inmates at the facility, which houses 3,100 inmates, stay in their cells except for medical purposes or court visits.
They are not allowed outdoor recreation or time in the jail’s day rooms.
The facility was put on lock down while sheriff’s officials investigate whether the altercation was part of an organized assault on deputies, Hallock said.
The order is expected to be lifted Thursday afternoon, he said.
