A 6-year-old boy died Wednesday evening after he was struck by a car while riding a skateboard, authorities said.
The boy was riding on a skateboard with a friend at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Fairview Street, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the boy was hit by a car and taken to UC Irvine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Bertagna said. The boy’s identity was not released pending notification of his family.
The driver, a 43-year-old woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
“At this point it looks like it was an accident, a tragic accident,” Bertagna said.
