Sofia Lama enjoying her “intense, challenging” role in “Dueños del Paraiso”

Mexican actress Sofia Lama said she is happy in her role as the daughter of a powerful drug trafficker in “Dueños del Paraiso,” since she enjoys playing “real, intense and challenging” characters.

The young woman of Greek and Spanish descent said in an interview with Efe that, although the classic soap opera about the trials and tribulations of love will always have a special place among television audiences, “the Latino public is eager to explore different stories.”

That is why the Telemundo series, starring Kate Del Castillo, Jose Maria Torre and Adriana Barraza, captivated her right from the start.

“This series represents a step forward in the evolution of television in Spanish. And that’s good, because we Latinos have to take risks, to make series with more real and profound themes. The super series like ‘Dueños del Paraiso’ are the new way of making television,” she said.

To play Silvana Cardona, a vain young woman who experiences a transformation during the development of the plot, Lama created a complex and detailed biography with experiences and “memories” that allow her to understand the psychology of her character.

“When I know how her childhood was, I can understand why she acts like she does,” Lama said, adding that she threw herself fully into reading and listening to the music of the 1970s, when the story takes place.

“But it’s the interaction with the actors that contributes the most to your character. Adriana Barraza, for example, during mealtimes asks me about my character, as a way of exploring it,” said the 27yearold, who describes herself as a creative, restless woman with a lot of energy who is seeking a spiritual path.
