Miami, May 4 (EFE). — After five years of silence, Mexican band Reik returns with a new album, confident that they can compete in a music scene dominated by reggaeton and other urban styles.
Reik is offering something “different” from other Latin pop artists, the band told EFE during an interview in Miami.
“If urban genres are popular today, then suddenly there is a lack of supply of good pop on the market, so we are increasingly more unique,” lead singer Jesus Navarro said, pointing to the continuing existence of a “gigantic” audience for pop.
Reik’s latest single, “Ya me entere,” introduces an “enlarged, improved and expanded” sound, the group said.
The band’s forthcoming album, “Des/amor,” includes a reggaeton version of the song featuring Nicky Jam.
Band member Julio Ramirez said the new song is part of Reik’s exploration of reggae, folk and urban rhythms.
“Des/amor” will be released June 17.
