SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Police Department on Monday released the names of four officers involved in a fatal shooting last week in the Mount Hope neighborhood.
Jose Luis Navarro, 40, of Lemon Grove was shot Thursday following an hour-long pursuit. He died at a hospital Saturday. He had been on life support, his family said.
Navarro had stopped his car on 41st Street near Hilltop Drive and raised a handgun toward officers. Fearing for their safety and the safety of the public and other officers, four officers fired their weapons, police homicide Lt. Mike Hastings said.
The officers were identified as James Graves, a 24-year veteran; Matthew Johnson, an eight-year veteran; Manuel Dominguez, a seven-year veteran; and Katherine Euler, a five-year veteran.
A gun was found in the car, along with what is believed to be methamphetamine, police said.
Police said Navarro was a suspect in a shooting that wounded two men in the Mountain View neighborhood days earlier.
Sheriff’s records show two warrants were issued in September for Navarro’s arrest, one for possessing methamphetamine for sale and the other for transporting drugs.
