Where’s the best place to be for 2015 solar eclipse? Faroe Islands

The remote Faroe Islands, midway between Scotland and Iceland, will be within the “path of totality” for a total solar eclipse on March 20, 2015. Eclipse-chasers who visit this small group of islands that just 50,000 people call home can expect to see 2 minutes, 9 seconds of totality on that day, if viewing conditions are good.
That’s the word from Chicago-based Great Canadian Travel Co., which offers an 11-day eclipse trip that begins and ends in Iceland. Participants fly from Iceland to the islands to see Torshavn, the capital, and the islands’ rugged side places such as Roykstovan, Gjogv, Eidi and other villages. The fourth day of the trip is spent at an eclipse viewing site with an astronomer to explain the celestial lineup.
After the eclipse, the tour returns to Iceland for seven days exploring the country’s south shore as well as volcanoes, glaciers and thermal springs in places such as Thingvellir National Park and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
When: The trip runs March 17 to 27, 2015.
Price: $7,110 per person, double occupancy; $8,710 for solo travelers. It includes trip leader and eclipse astronomer, accommodations, most meals, sightseeing tours, ground transportation, flight to and from Iceland and more. International airfare is extra.
