Would you pick up a gift in baggage claim that wasn’t yours?

I don’t know about you, but I take those unattended baggage announcements at airports seriously, mostly because I don’t want my luggage confiscated or blown up before it gets put on a plane.

I came across this “Candid Cameraâ€-like perky video that goes against all we’ve learned since 9/11 security procedures went into effect: People picking up unattended items that aren’t theirs at a baggage carousel. OK, the items are brightly packaged and, like something out of “Alice in Wonderland,†say, “Pick me up!†But still, would you?

Brussels Airlines, a Belgian carrier that’s a subsidiary of Lufthansa, decided to bestow Christmas gifts in the most unexpected place -- at the baggage claim carousel at Brussels’ airport on Dec. 19.

What was in the box? If you are first to pick up the package, you receive two airline tickets for flights around Europe. And yes, it was tied into a low-fare promotion.

I think the bigger question is why the airline would tempt folks to do something they’ve been explicitly told not to do. Even if it’s in the interest of fun.
